Description
The product contains horsetail (Equisetum arvense), which is a herb that has been used in traditional medicine internally as tea, or externally as baths or compresses, for treatment of disorders of the skin, locomotor system, kidneys and urinary tract, rheumatism and gout; it is an excellent natural source of cysteine and the minerals calcium, potassium, selenium and silica, which may enhance hair growth.
Because of its content of silica, this plant is recommended when it is necessary for the body to repair bony tissues. Silica helps to fix calcium, so that the body can store more quantity of this mineral and then use it to repair bones, collagen and other body tissues. Horsetail can therefore be useful for osteoporosis.
Changes in hair color and texture can be the result of nutritional deficiencies. Often, when the deficiencies are corrected, hair color and texture are restored. Historically, para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) has been used to stimulate hair growth and reduce graying of hair that is associated with nutrient deficiency or stress. The recommended dosage is 25-50 mg of PABA per day.
The metabolites choline (in the form of choline bitartrate) and inositolĀ are both precursors for phospholipids. Phospholipids are important for healthy hair-cell follicle development.
L-cysteine supports hair strength by providing adequate amounts of sulfur to hair cells. Skin, nails, and hair are high in l-cysteine. There is evidence that high-sulfur proteins, such as l-cysteine, are missing in the hair of patients who are losing hair. Supplementing the diet with L-cysteine increases the percentage of high-sulfur proteins in the hair.
Sulfur is present in abundance in the keratinized cells of hair. Chemically, sulfur has the ability to form strong bonds that contribute to the strength of healthy hair. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a natural and highly absorbable source of sulfur necessary for the formation of keratin in nails, skin, and hair.
